A Complete Practitioner's Protocol for Identifying, Removing & Banishing Entity Attachments by Red-Antz Master Spiritualist / Occultist / Shaman
There is an aspect of spiritual work that most teachers avoid until the student is ready — and some never teach it at all. It is the reality of negative spirit attachment: the phenomenon in which a discarnate entity — a lost soul, a residual energy imprint, or a parasitic astral form — attaches itself to a living human being's energy field and feeds off their vital force.
This is not fantasy. This is not superstition dressed in spiritual language. Across every culture on earth, in every era of recorded human history, the phenomenon of spirit attachment has been recognized, named, addressed, and treated. The Babylonian priests called them utukku — restless spirits that clung to the living. The ancient Egyptians identified them as akh spirits that had failed their judgment in the Hall of Ma'at and wandered the earth seeking connection to the living. The Chinese tradition speaks of gui — ghosts that attach to the living through resentment, desire, or hunger.
In the Christian tradition, this phenomenon falls under the umbrella of spiritual oppression — distinguished from full possession but acknowledged as a genuine spiritual condition requiring intervention. The Catholic Church maintains twelve thousand trained exorcists worldwide through the International Association of Exorcists, and the late Father Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican's chief exorcist for decades, reported performing tens of thousands of entities-related interventions.
In the shamanic traditions of Siberia, South Africa, and the Andes, spirit attachment is treated as a routine condition — as common and unremarkable as a cold — addressed by the community healer through specific extraction techniques passed down for generations. The Zulu sangoma, the Peruvian curandero, and the Mongolian böö all recognize the same basic phenomenon: something that does not belong has attached itself to you, and it must be removed.
Contemporary practitioners in the field of Spirit Release Therapy (SRT), formalized by Dr. Terry Hegarty and further developed by the College of Psychic Studies in London, describe spirit attachments along a spectrum. This framework is enormously useful:
Class I — Superficial Attachment: A loosely attached energy clinging to the outer aura. Often residual rather than intentional. May come from traumatic environments (battlefields, hospitals, accident sites) or from intense emotional events experienced in a location. Symptoms tend to be mild: a sense of heaviness, occasional unexplained mood changes, a vague feeling of "something present."
Class II — Embedded Attachment: The entity has moved deeper into the energy field, attaching to one or more chakra points. This level is more persistent and produces clearer symptoms: intrusive thoughts that do not feel like your own, chronic fatigue localized in a specific area of the body, recurring nightmares, and emotional patterns that contradict your usual nature.
Class III — Possessive Attachment: The deepest level, involving multiple chakra points and significant influence over the host's thoughts, emotions, and behavior. This is what traditional cultures call spiritual oppression — a state in which the host's free will is significantly compromised by the attached entity's influence. Medical and psychological conditions at this level often resist conventional treatment.
Spirit attachments do not typically happen at random. They exploit vulnerabilities — windows of energetic weakness through which they can enter. The most common entry conditions include:
Substance intoxication: Alcohol and drugs dissolve the natural boundaries of the energy field. Repeated use creates habitual permeability. Many spirit attachments occur during drinking episodes or drug use, especially in locations with dense spiritual activity.
Emotional trauma: Grief, rage, despair, and terror create tears in the aura that take time to heal. During this healing window, attachment is more common. Attachments after car accidents, violent assaults, sudden bereavement, and surgical procedures are particularly well-documented.
Unprotected spiritual practice: Opening your psychic centers, working with spirits, or entering trance states without proper protection is essentially leaving the front door open in a neighborhood where not everyone has good intentions. The psychic self-defense pillar covers this in depth.
Summoning and invitation: Deliberately inviting spirits to communicate without proper banishing procedures can leave residual connections that develop into attachments. Ouija boards, automatic writing sessions, and uncontrolled mediumship are common sources.
Environmental factors: Living or working in locations with traumatic histories (prisons, battlefields, asylums, sites of violent death) exposes you to residual and discarnate energies that may attach through prolonged proximity.
One of the most dangerous aspects of spirit attachment is how easily its symptoms are explained away. "I'm just tired." "I've been stressed lately." "This is just who I am now." The attached entity benefits from your dismissal — the longer you rationalize away the symptoms, the deeper the attachment becomes.
After years of working with attached clients, I have compiled the ten most reliable indicators. If you consistently experience three or more of these symptoms without adequate medical or psychological explanation, a spirit attachment should be seriously considered:
1. Sudden Personality Changes that you or others notice but you cannot explain. You were easygoing; now you are irritable without cause. You were social; now you isolate. These changes feel like they happen overnight and do not respond to the usual methods of self-improvement.
2. Intrusive Thoughts that feel qualitatively different from your own thinking. They may be violent, despairing, blasphemous, or self-destructive. You think, "This is not me" or "Why am I thinking this?" The sense of alienation from your own mind is a key indicator.
3. Unexplained Addiction or Craving that develops suddenly and does not correlate with your history or personality. A lifelong teetotaler who suddenly begins drinking heavily. A person who loved socializing who now craves isolation. The craving may be the attached entity's preference expressing through your behavior.
4. Chronic Fatigue with No Medical Explanation — you sleep eight hours and wake exhausted. Your energy drains rapidly in the afternoon. Physical examinations reveal nothing. This is classic energy-feeding behavior by the attaching entity.
5. Recurring Nightmares featuring specific themes: being chased, suffocated, buried, or drowned. These dreams often intensify during the period immediately following attachment and may involve a recurring figure or presence that feels distinctly not-you.
6. Hearing Your Name called when no one is there, or hearing murmuring, whispering, or footsteps with no identifiable source. This typically occurs at the boundary states between waking and sleeping — the entity is most active when your conscious defenses are at their lowest.
7. Emotional Out of Proportion to the situation. Rage that dwarfs the trigger. Terror in mundane situations. Grief over minor losses. These disproportionate emotions may be the attached entity's emotional residue expressing through your field.
8. Physical Discomfort in a Specific Location on the body — a tightness in the chest that no cardiologist can explain, a heaviness between the shoulders that massage does not relieve, a band-like pressure around your head. Entity attachments often register as physical sensations at the point of deepest penetration.
9. Relationship Deterioration that seems to come from nowhere. Your partner says, "You're different lately." Friends start pulling away. Conflicts erupt in relationships that were previously stable. The attached energy changes how you show up in relationship.
10. Sensitivity to Spiritual Places — feeling intensely uncomfortable in churches, temples, meditation spaces, or any place with concentrated spiritual energy. The attached entity reacts to the high-vibration environment, and you experience the reaction as your own discomfort.
Before proceeding to treatment, it is responsible to acknowledge that many symptoms of spirit attachment overlap with recognized medical and psychological conditions. Spirit attachment is not a diagnosis to be made to the exclusion of medical evaluation. Depression, anxiety disorders, thyroid conditions, sleep disorders, neurological conditions, and nutritional deficiencies can all produce symptoms that mimic spirit attachment.
The responsible path is: rule out the mundane before addressing the spiritual. See your doctor. Get bloodwork. Consider therapy. If conventional treatment addresses your symptoms, then the cause was likely not spiritual. If conventional treatment stalls, fails, or only partially helps — and especially if you recognize three or more signs from the list above — then spirit attachment deserves serious consideration.
Not all attachments are created equal. Different types of attaching entities have different motivations, different feeding behaviors, and — critically — different removal requirements. Understanding what you are dealing with informs how you deal with it.
This is the most common type of spirit attachment. The attached entity is the energy of a deceased human who, for various reasons, has not fully transitioned to the afterlife. They may not realize they may be dead (sudden death), they may be attached to a person they loved in life (attachment born of love rather than malice), or they may simply be lost.
How they attach: Usually through emotional resonance. They are drawn to someone who is grieving, someone with similar life experiences, or someone who was close to them in life. Entry often occurs during sleep, illness, or emotional vulnerability.
Their effect: Often surprisingly subtle. The host may feel a faint presence, have dreams featuring the deceased, or notice that they have adopted habits, opinions, or mannerisms characteristic of the deceased. In some cases, the attraction provides a strange comfort — which makes detection harder.
Removal approach: Compassionate redirection. These entities need to be informed that they have passed, that they are no longer among the living, and that there is a light/waiting guide/divine love calling them forward. This is not banishing — it is escorting.
These are non-human energy forms that exist in the lower astral planes — what the Tibetan tradition calls the preta realm (hungry ghosts). They are not evil in the moral sense — they are desperate. They feed on pranic energy the way a mosquito feeds on blood: not out of malice but out of desperate hunger.
How they attach: Opportunistically. They locate vulnerable energy fields (often weakened by substance use, depression, or trauma) and latch on to feed. They tend to attach at the solar plexus or base chakra, feeding on vital life force.
Their effect: Fatigue is the primary symptom. The host feels chronically drained regardless of sleep. There may also be increased appetite (the entity's hunger expressing through the host), lethargy, and a generalized sense of heaviness and disconnection from joy.
Removal approach: Combination of compassionate redirection and firm, authoritative command. These entities may be confused and desperate — they need to be directed toward the light, but they must also be firmly informed that they are not welcome to remain.
Not every attachment is a conscious entity. Sometimes what attaches to your field is psychic debris — residual energy from a curse, a hex, a prolonged period of sustained hatred directed at you, or a traumatic event. This is particularly common if you have experienced the effects of the evil eye or intentional psychic attack.
How they attach: Through emotional saturation. The energy of sustained negative intent (from others or from yourself) accumulates in your field over time, becoming attachments by sheer accumulation. These are not sentient but they are energetically active, feeding on the very emotions that created them.
Their effect: Recurring emotional loops (the same negative feelings cycling endlessly), persistent bad luck patterns, and a sense of being "hexed" or spiritually cursed. The host may report that everything they touch goes wrong, that they feel perpetually under siege.
Removal approach: Energetic clearing and dissolution rather than redirection. Since these are not entities, they cannot be "told" to leave. They must be dissolved through purification, then the resulting energy vacuum must be filled with protective light to prevent re-accumulation.
In some traditions — particularly African diasporic religions (Vodou, Santería, Candomblé) and Hindu ancestral rites (shraddha) — attachments can be inherited. The grief, trauma, and unfinished business of ancestors can be passed down through the family line as energetic burden. These are not parasites — they are family.
How they attach: Through the ancestral energy stream. You inherit not just your grandmother's eyes but her unprocessed grief. These attachments are invisible but cumulative, and they manifest as family patterns: repeating traumas, inherited addictions, generational curses.
Their effect: Patterns that run through the family, including strong ancestral spirit connections: recurring family tragedies, shared health conditions, or psychological patterns that resist individual treatment because they are not individual — they are systemic.
Removal approach: Ancestral healing, not exorcism. This requires ritual acknowledgment of the ancestral burden, apology on their behalf, and the conscious act of releasing the pattern with love. Our guide to ancestral spirit communication provides the framework for this work.
Before you attempt removal — whether on your own or with the help of a professional — you need a clear, honest assessment. This protocol is designed to help you determine whether spirit attachment is likely and, if so, its approximate class and type.
This is the single most useful self-assessment tool I know. For seven consecutive days, keep a structured journal tracking the following:
After seven days, review your journal. Look for patterns: Are there consistent intrusive thoughts in a specific emotional register? Does the heaviness occur in the same physical location? Do your dreams feature a recurring presence? If three or more of these show clear patterns not attributable to your ordinary psychology, a spirit attachment is probable.
If you have a pendulum, you can use it as a confirmation tool. Hold it steady and ask three questions, allowing the pendulum to swing freely for each:
1. "Is there currently any non-beneficial energy or entity attached to my energy field?"
2. "Is this attachment of human origin?"
3. "Is it possible to remove this attachment through my own practice?"
If your assessment indicates spirit attachment and you are confident in proceeding with self-removal, here is the protocol I teach to my students. It methods are appropriate for Class I attachments and mild Class II attachments. Beyond that threshold, professional help is strongly recommended.
Clear your intention: Approach this work not with anger, fear, or disgust, but with calm authority and compassionate firmness. You are not performing violence — you are restoring order.
Protect yourself: Perform your full psychic shield technique before beginning any removal work. You must be fully protected before engaging with an entity whose behavior you are about to change.
Choose your timing: Perform removal work during the waning moon (when energy naturally decreases) or on a Saturday (Saturn's day, governing banishing and release). Avoid the full moon, which amplifies all energy — including that of the attachment.
The fundamental removal method. Appropriate for all attachment classes when performed by a sufficiently grounded practitioner.
Specifically for earthbound human spirits (Type 1). This is not a banishing — it is an act of spiritual rescue.
Removal is not the end of the process — it is the beginning of recovery. The attachment left a wound in your energy field, and that wound must be treated with the same care you would give a physical wound. Without proper post-removal care, re-attachment is not just possible — it is likely.
The first 48 hours after removal are critical. Your energy field is in a state of reorganization, and the "wound" left by the attachment is an open invitation for new attachments if not properly sealed and healed.
Salt bath within 24 hours: As described in the removal protocol. This is non-negotiable. The salt draws out residual energy from the attachment and cleanses the wound.
Increased shielding: Double your normal shielding practice for the first week. Perform your morning protection ritual and add an evening reinforcement. Your shields need to be stronger than usual while the wound heals.
Avoid alcohol and drugs: For at least one week after removal, avoid all substances that alter your consciousness. Your energy field is healing and is more vulnerable than usual.
Grounding practices: Walk barefoot on earth. Eat root vegetables. Spend time in nature. Grounding accelerates the healing of energy field wounds by connecting you to the earth's stabilizing frequency.
Daily energy field check: Each morning, scan your energy field for any signs of re-attachment. The wound site will feel different as it heals — initially tender and open, gradually becoming smooth and sealed. If you feel the original symptoms returning, perform an immediate Banishing Breath and reinforce your shields.
Emotional processing: After removal, you may experience a period of emotional volatility as your system recalibrates to functioning without the attached energy. This is normal. You may grieve, feel relief, feel anger, or feel nothing at all. Allow whatever arises without judgment.
Journaling: Continue your shadow journal for 30 days post-removal. Track your energy, emotions, and any unusual experiences. This provides objective data on your recovery and early warning of any re-attachment.
The most important long-term prevention strategy is maintaining the daily protection practices described in our psychic shield guide. A well-maintained shield is the single most effective prevention against re-attachment.
Additionally:
• Maintain healthy boundaries in relationships — emotional enmeshment creates attachment opportunities
• Limit substance use, especially in unfamiliar or spiritually dense environments
• Practice regular energetic hygiene: salt baths, smudging, and sound clearing
• Address unresolved trauma through therapy, bodywork, or spiritual healing — trauma creates the energetic wounds that attract attachments
• Develop your spiritual practice under proper guidance — unguided psychic development creates vulnerability
I believe in self-empowerment. I believe that every person has the capacity to protect and cleanse their own energy field. But I also believe in honesty, and honesty requires acknowledging that some situations exceed self-treatment.
Seek professional help if:
• Your symptoms are Class III — severe personality changes, inability to distinguish your own thoughts from intrusive ones, self-harm ideation, or complete loss of energy and motivation
• Self-removal attempts have failed — you have performed the removal protocol three or more times with no improvement
• The attachment is accompanied by physical symptoms — unexplained pain, seizures, or physical manifestations that suggest deep penetration
• You feel unsafe — if the entity's presence feels threatening, hostile, or if you experience fear for your physical safety during removal attempts
• You are in active psychological crisis — spirit attachment work can destabilize an already fragile psychological state. Stabilize first, then address the spiritual component
Spiritual practitioners: Experienced energy workers, shamans, or spiritual healers who specialize in entity removal. Look for practitioners with specific training in spirit release, not just general energy work. Ask about their training, their success rate, and their approach.
Exorcists: If you are part of a religious tradition that offers exorcism or spiritual deliverance, this is a valid option. Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and many Protestant denominations have trained exorcists. Islamic tradition offers ruqyah — Quranic recitation for spiritual healing.
Spirit Release Therapists: Practitioners trained in the SRT method developed by the College of Psychic Studies. These practitioners work in a structured, clinical framework and often collaborate with mental health professionals.
Medical and psychological professionals: Always rule out medical causes first. A responsible spiritual practitioner will never tell you to stop taking prescribed medication or to abandon therapy. The best outcomes occur when spiritual and medical approaches work in parallel.
Spirit attachment is real, it is more common than most people realize, and it is treatable. The fact that you have read this far suggests that something in you recognizes the truth of what I have described. Trust that recognition. It is your higher self — the part of you that has always known something was not quite right — finally being heard.
Whether you pursue self-treatment or professional help, the most important step is the first one: acknowledging the possibility and choosing to act. That choice — that moment of sovereign decision — is itself a powerful act of spiritual self-defense.
You are not your attachment. You are the one who removes it.
